MARCH 2009 |
Happy New Year to MIB members
and friends. 2009 is shaping up to be a busy year, with lots of performances,
especially in the first half of the year. Usually our major concert of the year
takes place in spring; this year it will be an autumn concert in April
- details below.
NEWS FLASH!!!!
MIB’S AUTUMN CONCERT – Sunday April 19th, 2.30pm. Please note
the change of venue – this will take place in St Augustine’s Anglican Church,
56 Racecourse Road, Ascot/Hamilton (opposite Balowrie St, near library). This
programme includes a combination of both instrumental and vocal music. Along
with a range of music from Wagner and Szeto to Dowland, it will also feature
Nathan Aspinall’s arrangement of Carissimi’s ‘Jephte’ for mandolin ensemble and
voice. Cost: $15, those under 12 free. Parking available. Tickets will be sold
at the door.
This is PO Box 701 Annerley,
Qld 4103.
For any queries about
lessons, contact Anne Roubos, Ph. 3324 1680.
We are pleased to welcome new
players Wes Whitfield (guitar) and Bhodi Aylen (mandolin) who both performed
with MIB at QPAC’s Christmas In Concert in November, and also Ron Williams
(double bass). MIB would love to hear from any mandolin players who would like
to join us. We practice at Sherwood Community Centre, Thallon Street on Mondays
from 7pm – 9.30pm.
QPAC’s CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT – this was a highlight for us, wherein we gained
valuable experience in performing in front of a large crowd. (We also learnt
how to get on and off the stage at the speed of light, how not to lose our
backstage passes and where the best food at QPAC was.)
MIB’s AGM – was held in February.
BLUE CARE CONCERT – 31st May, Qualtra St, W’gabba. (Not open to
the public.)
NEW FARM SENIOR CITIZEN’S CONCERT – 3rd June
(Wednesday), Uniting Church, Merthyr Road. (Not open to the public.)
BRISBANE CITY HALL LUNCHTIME CONCERT – 12 noon, Main
Auditorium, Tuesday 16th June, free concert. MIB will play for 30
minutes.
FETE DE LA MUSIQUE – (possible) 21st June, venue somewhere in
Brisbane.
MANDOLINS CELEBRATING Q150 – Saturday July 11th, St Johns Cathedral, Ann
Street. This should be a momentous event, so don’t forget about it. (Don’t
worry, we’ll remind you.) Performers for this will come from all over
Australasia, new music will be premiered and you will learn about Queensland’s
history so effortlessly, you will wonder why on earth they don’t introduce this
new teaching method in schools.
MUSIC AT ST FRANCIS CHURCH – Sunday 4th October, 68 Cavendish St,
Nundah. MIB will perform for 40 mins in a 2 hour programme with Naomi
Drogemuller & the Ghost.
These
are just the concerts we know about so far – and it’s only March.
